Sumario:The microscopic characters of the leaf's lamina are extremely important to the taxonomical studics. This is evident because this part of the plant is the first to grow ripe, and can be studied independantly, being it in blossom or not.- As a rule, the anatomíc characters of this organ are based on preparations showing the abaxial and adaxial epidermis and on transversal seetions of it. Those characters in the Paspalum genus were obtained through observation of the species cultivated in the Jardín Botánico de la Facultad de Agronomía y Veterinaria de Buenos Aires and in herbarium material. In the last case, the anatomic method advised by Metcalfe (1960) was followed, with some modifications.- The epidermis is typically Panicoide; it contains a type of long cells and two kinds of short cells (silica and cork cells). The short ones typically occur in pairs. Nevertheless, it is commoner that they form groups of 3 to 5 or more than 5 cells in a line, distributed especially on the veins. The epidermic cells are ordained in parallel rows, which vary according to the part of the lamina in which they are. Thusm the inner epidermis in made of long cells mainly, white along the veins there are long cells or cells alternated with short ones, with hooks, stomata or hairs. On this surface there are bulliform cells the function of which has not benn completely cleared. The exodermic cells consist of uni-and pluricellular hairs, hooks, prickles and papillae.- Foliar transection: The commonest case in that both abaxial and adaxial faces are softly undulated. The meston sheath in missing, while the parenchyma sheath is always present, being complete or not. The ehlorenchyma in formed by rachymorf cells radiated or difuse around the bundle sheaths. The selerenchyma in presented in the lamina in small groups of cells corresponding to the bundles, being united to them or not. The middle vein in generally keel shaped, and presents one or more small bundles of selerenchyma on the adaxial surface.- There is a close relation between the chromosomic numbers and the length of the stomata, which is an importante help for the appreciation of cytogenetic characters in the analysis of herbarium material.- In the present paper a key is given and a description of the 69 species and 5 Argentine varieties of the Paspalum genus, based on their anatomic characters. The aim of this work is to show how the hystological or anatomic characters could be related to the morphological ones. Ordaining the species according to the morphological groups it was proved that it is not possible, at least in this genus, a total coincidence between the anatomy and morphology of the species. According to the observation perfomed, the leaf's lamina reflects better the ecological conditions of its "habitat" than the anatomic characters as a species in particular.- Together with the study of the Argentine species of the Paspalum genus, some species of the following gena were studied: Axonopus, Digitaria, Eriochloa, Ichnanthus, Panicum and Setaria. This investigation was performed in order to establish the relationship of these gena of Paniceae.-
