Sumario:ABSTRACT: The region analizad in the work lies within the "Hydrogeological Basin of The Salí River", in the northeast area of the Province of Tucumán. In this region there is a significant agricultural and industrial activity with intensive use of the rural and urban population comes from deep wells since there are no rives or streams in the foothills or on the plains. Detailed hydrogeological studies that take into account thr preservation of the water resources are required for the rational and sustained exploitation of the groundwater. This study reports a detailed geological survey of the lithological units in the West of the Sierra del Aconquija, focusing on the importance as groundwater reservoir rocks. The climatic information suply by numerous meteorological station, facilitated to characterize the region climatically and determinate from the recharge of water to the two aquifer complexes. Geophysical studies based on Vertical Electric Sounding (VES) determined three aquifer unity, one of them free upper and the two deep lawer. These two are inensely exploited for drinking and irrigation water. Isoresistivity maps were made as well as maps of the top, bottom and thickness of the aquifer unity to know their distributionh and behavior and so facilitate their future exploitation. On the basic of a well statistical survey a map was of the curves of water level, showing the recharge and conduction areas well as the direction of the flow. The survey reported the number of wells in operation, their location, depth drilled and lithologies crossed, building characteritics (drilling and casing diameters), water levels (static and dynamic), rate pumping, number and deep of the exploited aquifers and uses of the groundwater. Pumping assays in selected wells allowed the characterization of the three aquifer unity. Samples from stream water, from the free aquifer and form the two deep complexes were taken. Temperature, pH, conductivity, turbidity oxygen, O.C.D., O.B.D., alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, carbonate, sulfate, chloride, nitrate, flúorine, silica, arsenic, vanadium, uranium, boron, antimony, iromn and molybdenum were determined. The samples were analyzed in the laboratory of the Instituto de Geoquímica (INGEOQUI) under the CONICET. All the sampling operations in the selected points and techniques and procedures used in the laboatories heve been normalized in agrement with the rules of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (1993a - b), of the U.S. Geological Survey (Skougstad et al., 1970) and other internatiobnal organizations of worlrd-wide prestige. The analysis of the geophysical, hydrogeological and hydrochemical data allowed us to determine the existence of three acuifer unity with good quality water in the basin under consideration. Wityh hydrological information and hydraulics overturned in maps hydrogeologics speeds of natural and induced flow, flows of underground glide and reservations of underground water they were calculated that will serve to establish rules for a rational and sustained exploitation of the underground resource. Using a modern program of mathematical modelation of underground flow a preliminary model of flow low permanent régime thinks about and it is analized the necessary information and the appropriate tools to execute it.
