| Sumario: | ABSTRACT: The aim of the current PhD thesis on Geology was to assess the flood risk in the Gastona river basin, through the evaluation of hydrogeomorphological evolution and future tendencies due to environmental changes based on extreme climatic scenarios from the historic register. This research work consits on the integrated study of general physics aspects, such as climate, and especific ones, such as the applied geomorphology aminly focus on land degradation and intensification of alluvial processes and fulfilled on ponds. Gastona river basin is a complex fluvial system due to a combination of environmental factors, such as an abrupt lanscape, a seasonally contrasted climate with intense summer rainfalls, high erodability soils and a vegetation coverage strongly affected by human agricultural activities. This drainage basin is representative of degraded environmental conditions of hydrographic basins in Northwestern Argentina. As main findings, thematic maps were yielded, as geology (lithostratigraphic and tectonics) morphogenetic geomophologic unit maps. Also, climatic and hydrologic parameters were analyzed and future tendencies were determined from the historical data, in addition to the analysis of the "El Niño-La Niña Phemmnomena" during the last decades on the region. The torrential grade was determined and correlated with the erosion hazard. Degration process intensification was evaluated through the land use change analysis. The increment of vulnerability was related to the human pressure on the fluvial system, due to catastrophic floods are oromoted by antrhopic impacts. The flood prompt areas under different return periods were estimated by the statistc study of historic hydrometeorological data in order to get hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, which were calibrated through field measurements and palaeoflood geoindicators and survey form datailed hydrogeomorphological assessment on sample areas (Alpachiri, Concepción, Atahona y Chicligasta). While, vulnerability maps were yielded from the land use map. Flood risk maps were obtained from GIS's calculations between hazard and vulnerability maps for each sample area. Finally, recommendations and a basin systematozation proposal is stated from the results respecting to flood risk and degradation degree zonation. |
